ICD 10 is comming Empty ICD 10 is comming

Post  Admin Fri Jul 08, 2011 11:52 pm

ICD 10 is comming and organizations are feeling the heat. Many software companies are also set to release their products to help achieve transition. There are ICD 9 to 10 conversion tools already in the market and some are even freely available. For the certified coders, they need to clear an additional ICD 10 certification exam to retain their certifications within two years from the implementation date or else loose the certification.

Hi Thaicoder, welcome to his forum.

It is necessary to transition from ICD 9 to ICD 10 since ICD 10 is more specific than ICD 9 and will result in better coding and reimbursement . Regarding your worry about ICD 11, i would say it is a distant future. ICD 11 will be completed in abnout 2020, but completing development of ICD 11 does not mean that it will be implemented immediately. ICD 10 CM was developed in 2003, but it took a decade to switch to ICD 10. Do not worry about ICD 11. If you want to get into medical coding then i would say there are lotg of opportunities in US. One thing i want to make clear that if you are thinking of getting a job immediately after training then you are wrong. For beginners i have seen that getting a job is tough job, but once ICD 10 gets implemented i assume that there will be lot of openings for beginners also as companies will need to hire more coders if they start to work in ICD 10.

Thanks

Yes you can compare. If you are interested you can appear for coding certificatins CPC or CCS. CCS is difficult one so you can first attempt CPC

CPC stands for Certified professional coder and is conducted by AAPC (www.aapc.com).

Check http://www.aapc.com/certification/locate-examination.aspx

You can also go for CCS which his very reputed exam in medical coding industry but it is very tough. CCS is conducted by AHIMA (www.ahima.org). CCS is online exam
